Springing Forward

What a late, active Spring we have been having! It seems like Winter just didn't want to let go, but it's starting to look like Spring may be here to stay at last.

Thankfully we can finally put away our thermal boots and bring out some pretty footwear, and these great shoes that we bought on Amazon are our favorites to welcome Spring in!

We loved the artisan look that these shoes had, but the real selling point was how comfortable these are! The leather conforms to your feet, and the wedge offers lots of support.

The other bonus is that these are so well priced, you can afford to get them in more than one color!

Part of being a Lifestylist® is that we need to be able to go wherever the road takes us, and these shoes have been wonderful traveling companions. I hope that you enjoy these as much as we have.

My Life as a Trailer Diva

Trailers, or manufactured homes constantly get a bad rap. Gone are the days of tires on the roofs and “tornado magnets” - today’s manufactured homes are actually a preferred form of housing.

After being a homebuilder and designing “traditional housing” for over 20 years I decided that the future had wheels and I wanted to roll along with that trend. After looking for 10 years, I’ve found my destiny – I’m now officially a Trailer Diva.

Why manufactured housing? Try to take any traditionally built home down the road at 65…OK, maybe 55 miles an hour and let me know how far you get. Whether a manufactured home is $20,000 or $2,000,000 they are built to withstand all of the potholes and issues that we have to face every day when we drive down the road.

There is a misconception that manufactured homes are made with “trailer parts” and to fix or replace anything in your home you would have to go to a special store and get special parts. Any home that I have been in is built with the same materials that you would find in any home (if not better) and you can upgrade your faucets or carpet at any home improvement store.

While working with Patriot Homes I’ve been fortunate to be able to visit all of their building centers and get to know quite a few of the people who are responsible for building these homes. They are an amazing group and really take pride in the homes that they build. When’s the last time you saw a happy contractor at a typical construction site? Another bonus with manufactured homes is that you have a workforce who works at the same location every day in a controlled environment and are supervised. Manufactured homes are built to national – not local codes and each home is inspected by a national inspector. Patriot’s northern plants are in areas that have a high concentration of Amish workers – true craftspeople that take great pride in their work.

Designing trailers is a blast! I haven’t met a snob yet and they have all been open to new ideas and trends. The day is coming where trends start in the manufactured housing field and then get picked up by site builders. MSNBC recently had a live poll and asked people if they would buy a manufactured home. Over 85% of the people polled stated that they would live in one if it was well designed.

The next time you are considering buying a new home or thinking about investing in a vacation or retirement home, take a look at what manufactured housing has to offer. I promise you it will be one of the best investments of time you will ever make.

Rob and Lydia Mondavi Debut Mondavi Home

I love being a matchmaker as well as a Lifestylist®. It is such a joy when I'm able to put people and companies together that can help each other and make each more successful.

Introducing Rob and Lydia Mondavi to the Thermador team was the perfect pairing - the first family of California wines needed to become more familiar with the iconic appliance company that revolutionized how today's home cook uses their kitchens.

Mondavi Home Is debuting this weekend in Beaufort, SC and the home that they have designed is stunning. Learn more about this great new brand here.

Fall Picnics

Spring and Fall are my favorite times of the year. Not too hot, not too cold, and there's a promise of change in the year.

Since we totally remodeled our outdoor spaces this year we've been enjoying picnics by the pool and it has been wonderful. Nothing fancy, just a great bottle of wine, some cheeses and a decadent dessert.

Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from all of us at The Lifestylist Brands. May your holidays be bright and beautiful, and 2014 be a year of love, laughter and compassion.

African Orphans Send Message of Hope to Tornado Survivors

My sister and her family live in Edmond, Oklahoma and are one of the lucky families that have a storm shelter. Tornadoes touched down near them last weekend but what happened to them was nothing like what happened to the residents of Moore, Oklahoma.

Last Summer they had an unbelievable experience - they packed up trunks and suitcases full of shoes, clothes, blankets, and other needed items and headed to Maisha International Orphanage - an amazing labor of love in Kisumu, Kenya. The stories and images they brought back are life changing, and it's a great reminder of how a small donation or offering can be life changing to these kids.

The beautiful souls at Maisha wanted to do something for their friends in Oklahoma City and Moore, and made this video as a way of showing their love and support. What a great reminder this Memorial Day weekend how precious life is and we all need to live ours to the fullest.

Doing The Most Good: Salvation Army

Salvation Army Hurricane 6Salvation Army Hurricane 7Salvation Army Hurricane 1

It's heartbreaking to watch the news today and see the devastation in Moore, Oklahoma. My sister and her family live in Edmond, OK and I have clients that have land lease communities very close to where the tornado touched down. Sam - my nephew and favorite Jr Lifestylist spent the afternoon in their storm shelter a few days ago having a picnic with his pets -I'm so glad that he made sure they were safe as well as his family.
People always think that "trailer parks" or "mobile home parks" are the worst places to be during a disaster like this, but that just isn't true. I was glad to hear that the Yes! Communities in this area only sustained hail and wind damage and no one was hurt. Their on-site managers made sure that everyone got to where they needed to be and are now busy helping them get emergency supplies and repairs. That's one of the advantages of living in a well run land lease community - there's always someone there to help.
If you would like to help the people of Moore that were affected by the storm, I encourage you to donate to the Salvation Army. They truly do the most good with every dollar that is donated.
